How to make a designer looking nightstand for less than 25$ ?

Tired of having your book or your glass of water on the floor? Get your bedroom some designer looking nightstands for pennies!

Last time I went to Ikea I found out that they had some sales. And of course the sale was not on stuff that I wanted to buy... But when I saw those big white bins with a very clean design at 50% off, I thought twice before passing them by. I already like the shape of it, and the fact that I could get two big bins for the price of one made me think at where I could put them in the house. I knew I needed to find nightstands after we remodeled the bedroom. I already looked at the price of nightstands and they were totally out of my budget. As I do like to divert objects’ usages, I then realized that those had the perfect proportions to be very cool nightstands! I shook my designer mind a little bit (as I am an architect), and came up with the luminous idea of lighting them up!

Check out this easy step-by-step to make this DIY happen to your bedroom!

First, start with a little shopping at Ikea and get the Fibbe bin for only $6.99 (if you want to have two nightstands, get two!).  You can stop there and put your bin(s) on the side of your bed. You got your nightstand(s)!!

If you want to go a little further on this easy project, you will need (from ikea, or elsewhere):

- a light socket with a cord attached (around 8$)

- a dimmer (if you want to play with the ambiance of your room) (around 8$)

- a light bulb (incandescent if you get the dimmer)

- a round tupperware that you will reuse (yeah!) from your last thai or indian food delivery 

- a square mirror

Step1 : Take the light socket through one of the handle. 

Step 2 : Connect the cord from the light socket to the dimmer. 

Step 3 : Adjust the size of the cord. Put the extra in the bin, so you don’t have leftover cord all over your bedroom.

Step 4 : Screw the lightbulb in and take your reused tupperware to hold it in the middle of the bin. You can secure it with doucle sided tape to create a stand. Make sure that it is stable and not touching the wire, you don’t want to burn anything.

Step 5 : Put the cover back gently and place the square mirror over to create a nice flat top.

Step 6 : Plug the lamp in, adjust the dimmer, and enjoy!

Two ‘designer’ nightstands on each side of your bed, make your room as if it was just remodeled. It goes with every style due to the fact that it a very clean design.

La dernière fois que je suis allé à Ikea, j’ai vu qu’ils avaient certains articles en promo. Bien sûr les promotions n'était pas sur les trucs que je voulais acheter... Mais, quand j'ai vu ces grands bacs blancs avec un design très épuré à - 50%, j’ai pensé à deux fois avant de passer mon chemin. Déjà j’aimais la forme, et le fait que j'ai pouvais avoir deux gros bacs pour le prix d'un, je me suis demandé où je pouvais bien les mettre dans la maison. J'avais besoin de tables de nuit après que nous ayons redesigner la chambre. J’avais déjà regarder le prix des chevets, c’était totalement hors de mon budget. Comme j’adore détourner les objets de leurs usages, j’ai vu alors que ceux-ci avaient la proportion idéale pour être chevets super cool! J'ai tourné ça un peu mon esprit créatif (je suis architecte), et ai eu l'idée (lumineuse?) de mettre de la lumière!

Découvrez étape-par-étape ce projet facile à faire pour votre chambre!

Tout d'abord, commencer par un peu de shopping chez Ikea et acheter le bac Fibbe pour seulement 4,99€ (si vous voulez avoir deux tables de nuit, prenez-en deux!). Vous pouvez vous arrêter là et de mettre le(s) bac(s) au(x) coté(s) de votre lit. Vous avez donc votre (vos) nouvelle(s) table(s) de chevet!

Si vous voulez aller un peu plus loin avec ce projet facile, vous aurez besoin (de chez ikea, ou autre):

- une douille avec un fil électrique

- un variateur (si vous voulez modifier l'ambiance de votre chambre)

- une ampoule (à incandescence si vous obtenez le variateur)

- un tupperware rond de récupération (ouais! récup!)

- un miroir carré

Etape 1: Passez la douille à travers une des poignée.

Étape 2: Connecter le cordon et le variateur ensemble.

Etape 3: Ajuster la taille du fil. Mettez l’exédent dans le bac, de sorte que vous n'ayez pas le reste du cordon dans toute votre chambre.

Étape 4: Visser l'ampoule sur la douille, et prenez votre tupperware pour le maintenir dans le milieu du bac. Vous pouvez le fixer avec de l’adhésif double-face pour plus de sécurité. Assurez-vous que ce soit stable et l'ampoule ne touche pas le fil, vous ne voulez pas de brûler quoi que ce soit.

Étape 5: Remettez le couvercle doucement et poser le miroir carré afin d’avoir une surface bien plane.

Étape 6: Branchez la lampe, régler le variateur, et profitez-en!

Deux chevets de 'designer' de chaque côté de votre lit et votre chambre comme votre remodelée. Cela va avec tous les styles du fait du design très épuré.
